Vera was born February 12th, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee to Arlene and Adam Burrell Sr. and from their union they had 6 children. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles L. Newby, siblings; Louise Teague, Adam Burrell Jr. (Lendora), Robert Burrell (Sophoni), and Larry Burrell.
Vera and family relocated from the South to Chicago, Illinois in the late 1950s. At an early age Vera gave her life to the Lord and remained a faithful servant living a beautiful blessed life. She graduated from Dusable High school and shortly after married the love of her life, Charles Lee Newby. Their union brought them a baby girl, Alatha Newby.
She worked 20 years at Goldbatts company and was considered by coworkers as the best dressed, flyest paymaster the company had ever seen. Her career continued with C & K company through multiple ownership changes and she was a major contributor to the company. Vera was a breast cancer survivor . She went on to survive another 30 adventure filled years. She enjoyed many years of travels and entertaining family and friends at home. Christmas Eve was one of the favorite times to have friends at her home for her to serve her special gumbo.
Vera is survived by daughter Alatha (Vincent ) Fleming, granddaughters, Mia Fleming and Amari Fleming, sister Elizabeth Smith (Willie), and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family and amazing friends.
