James Mitchell

James Lester Mitchell was the third child born on December 27, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to the joy of Jerry Lee and Lessie B. Mitchell.

Pete, as he was affectionately called, was educated in the Chicago Public Schools system. He attended Doolittle elementary and Wendell Phillips High School.

He was employed by the city of Chicago for the Park District for several years.

May 1972, he was united in Holy matrimony to Gwendolyn Burford. In this alliance, they welcomed two sons, James and Micheal. Subsequently, the dissolution of the marriage, Pete welcomed a gorgeous baby girl “ Deborah”.

Pete was an avid sports fan. He loved boxing, track, and football. He especially enjoyed college football ; crowning Notre Dame as his favorite college football team. Pete was the spark at all the social events. He loved music and was a rhythmic dancer.

After a brief illness, James passed away on October 1,2025, prior to confessing Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Lessie Mitchell, siblings; Ruthie Mae and Richard.

He leaves to rejoice in his memory three children; James, Michael and Deborah, Seven grandchildren; Malcolm, Keimonee, Miracle, Chrisma, Joshua, James Jr., Jamir, three nieces: LaVonne, Sheldra , Vernetta, fourteen great nephews and nieces , and a host of relatives and friends
