Eric Brooks, affectionately known as “Paw-Paw,” was born on January 24, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, to Colantha and John L. Brooks, who both preceded him in death.
Eric graduated from Farragut High School and went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Army for six years. After his military service, he worked as a truck driver for Louis Paper Company for nine years. Eric was the true patriarch of his family— a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. Family was always of the utmost importance to him. He led with strength, provided with love, and protected with grace, always wearing a smile.
He enjoyed traveling, celebrating holidays with family, and visiting casinos. Eric also had a sweet tooth and especially loved ice cream and cake—chocolate or cheesecake were his favorites. On September 21, 2009, in Las Vegas, Eric married the love of his life, Celestina, who also preceded him in death.
Eric leaves to cherish his memory two brothers, Tyrone Brooks and Gregory Brooks; eight children: Erik Bridges, who preceded him in death. Joycee Coleman (Rayshon), Tenisha McCline, Margaree Greenleaf (Jerome), Ernestine Seaton, Jimmie Coleman, Celestina Coleman , and Sean Austin (Jasmine); 31 grandchildren: Tyranique, Ajaya, Jocelyn, Darrion, Jimmie 4th, Shanga, Iyonna, Gabrielle, Jaliyah, Deiasia, Janiyah, Machi, Kayon, Jimmiela, Katera, King, Kaden, Janecia, Kaniya, Jovian, Jimear, Jimaria, Royalty, Loyalty, Tyren, Breana, Kendra, Shawnae, Marsean, Yasmin and Jasmin; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving family members and dear friends.
Eric will be remembered for his strength, his generosity, and his unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
